Wrap tonight. Sleep comfy. Wake up to soft, bouncy curls.

The short answer Brush out dry hair and mist it lightly. Wrap it snug around a soft CurlBand™, away from your face. Leave 1–2 inches of your ends out and tie them with a silk scrunchie. Wear it at least 1–2 hours, or sleep in it for the longest hold.

Rachel's #1 rule

Start dry, then mist

Rachel misting dry, brushed hair before wrapping it on a CurlBand

"I always start with completely dry hair and then just mist it, so it is the perfect amount of wetness." — Rachel

Mist until it would dry in about 10 minutes. Too wet and it spends the night drying instead of curling. Hello, long and limp.

More prep tips

Night-shower girl? Blow-dry your scalp first for volume.

Mist from ear level down, wherever you want curls to start.

Brush it out fully first with the Volume Brush. However smooth it starts is how smooth it ends.

Need more hold? A little mousse or air-dry cream goes a long way.

The quick version

Heatless curls in 60 seconds

  1. Brush out dry hair fully, part it, and mist lightly.
  2. Clip your CurlBand™ on like a headband, behind your ears.
  3. Start at your face and wrap away from it.
  4. Add 2–4 sections per side (thick hair: criss-cross, 4–6+), snug to your scalp.
  5. Finish with the seatbelt so it holds.
  6. Leave 1–2 inches of your ends out. Silk scrunchie on.
  7. Wear it at least 1–2 hours, or sleep in it. Longer wear = longer hold.
  8. Unwrap, shake it out, and go.

Watch, then wrap

Step by step with Rachel

CurlBand laid over the head like a headband and clipped at the part

Step 1

Band on, behind your ears

Center it on your part and clip it. Zigzag the back part. Nobody wants the Red Sea part.

"Keep this curl band behind your ear and thank me later." — Rachel

Step 2

Start at your face

Take the front piece up and over the band. Rachel leaves no hair out. Want a face-framing piece? Leave it out and set it in a Velcro roller while the rest is in your CurlBand™.

Step 3

Sections for your thickness

Medium to thin hair: 2–4 sections per side. Thick hair: criss-cross with at least 4–6. Tug each one up and over, fist close to your scalp. No saggy hair.

Step 4

Finish with the seatbelt

Leave a small back piece out, then wrap it the opposite way at the end. That baby's going nowhere.

"The most secure way to make sure it holds in place." — Rachel

Step 5

Ends out, scrunchie on

Leave about 1–2 inches of your ends out, then secure with a silk scrunchie (never a tight elastic). Repeat on the other side.

Step 6

Sleep on it

Wear it at least 1–2 hours (fine hair can need less). The longer you wear it, the longer your curls hold, so overnight is the jackpot.

"It literally feels like nothing." — Rachel

Step 7

Unwrap, shake, lift

Unwind gently, slide the band out, and shake your roots.

"Like hello, volume." — Rachel

My wrap unraveled

Finish with the seatbelt: leave a small back piece out and wrap it the opposite way at the end. Rachel calls it "the most secure way to make sure it holds in place." Thick hair? Criss-cross with at least 4–6 sections per side.

My curls fell flat by lunch
Your hair went in too wet or came out too soon. Start dry, then mist, and wear it longer. The longer you wear it, the longer it holds.
It came out frizzy
Smooth start, smooth finish. Pull a tiny dot of conditioner through before you wrap, sleep on satin, and add a drop of oil after.
Too tight, or I have a dent
Use fewer, bigger sections or wrap a little looser. Dents usually come from the ends: leave 1–2 inches out and use a silk scrunchie.
The top didn't curl
The top wasn't fully dry. Smooth it and mist from ear level down only.
It's uncomfortable to sleep in
Keep the band behind your ears and get that elbow back while you wrap. Side sleeper? Try the Unicorn wrap.
One side curled more
Match your tension and mist on both sides. It evens out in a few nights.

FAQ

Should my hair be wet or dry?
Dry or slightly misted, never soaking. Rachel starts 100% dry and mists until it would dry in about 10 minutes.
How long should I leave heatless curls in?
At least 1–2 hours (fine hair can need less). The longer you wear it, the longer your curls hold. Overnight gives the longest hold.
Why does my wrap unravel?
The last section was loose. Finish with the seatbelt, and if your hair is thick, criss-cross with 4–6+ sections per side. See Fix it tonight.
How many sections should I use?
It depends on thickness. Medium to thin hair: 2–4 per side. Thick hair: criss-cross with at least 4–6 per side. Finish with the seatbelt.
Is it comfortable to sleep in?
Yes. It's soft and sits behind your ears. "It literally feels like nothing." — Rachel
Should I brush before wrapping?
Yes. Brush it out fully first. Rachel uses the Volume Brush: "It feels like a scalp massage… you're welcome."
Do I leave any hair out?
Rachel doesn't. If you want a face-framing piece, leave it out and set it in a Velcro roller while the rest is in your CurlBand™.
Do I leave my ends out?
Yes. Leave about 1–2 inches out, then secure with a silk scrunchie.
Which size should I get?
Long for medium to long or thick hair. Short for shoulder-length or fine hair.
Do I need special scrunchies?
Free silk scrunchies come with every CurlBand™. Any soft scrunchie works, just not a tight elastic.
