About Cozy Confidence
I Never Planned to Start a Business
Seriously. Starting my own company was never part of the plan.
In 2019, I was determined to finally get the long, healthy hair I had always wanted. So I decided to stop using heat on my hair.
There was just one problem: I still wanted to curl it.
That sent me down a heatless-curl rabbit hole. I tried everything—robe ties, socks, foam curlers, and just about every contraption you could wrap around your head. You name it, I probably slept in it.
I shared all of these experiments with my followers along the way. I even helped one heatless curling brand go viral and sold them completely out of their inventory!
But no matter what I tried, I kept thinking:
There has to be an easier, more comfortable way to do this.
So I Made What I Couldn’t Find
While collaborating with the owner of the heatless tool I had helped go viral, I shared an idea I had for something much simpler: a soft, lightweight band that would sit comfortably on top of your head while you slept.
She thought the idea was too simple and brushed it off.
But simple was exactly what I wanted.
I wasn’t trying to invent the next big hair product. I just wanted something easy enough and comfortable enough that I would actually want to sleep in it every night.
So I made one for myself.
It was soft, lightweight, incredibly comfortable to sleep in, and so much simpler than everything else I had tried.
And it worked.
Before long, I realized something funny: I had completely stopped testing other heatless curling methods.
I wasn’t searching anymore because I had finally found the one I wanted—and it was mine.
As far as I was concerned, problem solved.
My followers, however, had other plans.
“Just Go Make Your Own!”
Women started asking if I would make CurlBands for them too.
My response?
“Just go make your own!”
And I meant it!
I had absolutely no intention of starting a product company. I was also navigating life as a newly single mom of two little boys, and the idea of figuring out manufacturing, inventory, a website, shipping, customer service, and everything else that comes with building a business felt completely overwhelming.
But my community wouldn’t let the idea go.
They told me they wanted to buy one from me. They wanted to support me as a single mom. They encouraged me to start a business and even started sending me ideas for what I should call it.
I had multiple women tell me they had dreamed about me starting this company!! For real!
For months, they kept asking. And for months, I kept resisting.
Eventually, with a whole lot of encouragement and the help of some incredible angels here on earth, I finally decided to take a chance on the idea everyone else seemed to believe in before I did.
Maybe this little CurlBand I had made for myself could make life a little easier for other women too.
Cozy Confidence Was Born
On Black Friday in November 2021, I officially launched Cozy Confidence (then called Rachel's Robe Ties)
And somehow, the business I never planned to start became my full-time job.
What began as one little CurlBand I made because I couldn’t find anything comfortable enough to sleep in has now made its way into the hands—and onto the heads—of tens of thousands of women around the world.
Sometimes I think back to those women who kept asking me to sell them a CurlBand while I kept telling them to make their own.
They saw it before I did.
My community believed in Cozy before Cozy even had a name, and I’ll forever be grateful they didn’t take no for an answer.
We’re Just Getting Started
Five years later, I still feel like we’ve barely scratched the surface.
Because I know how something as simple as waking up with your hair already done can change your morning. It’s one less thing to think about, one less thing to make time for, and one simple way to wake up already feeling a little more put together.
I want Cozy CurlBands in the suitcases of sister missionaries, on the nightstands of teachers, in college dorm rooms, and in the bathrooms of busy moms trying to get everyone out the door.
I want them in the homes of women everywhere who would love to spend a little less time getting ready and a little more time living their lives.
Because Cozy has never really been about perfect curls.
It’s about making life easier and helping women wake up feeling effortlessly confident.
I never dreamed of starting Cozy Confidence.
But now I have a much bigger dream:
Helping millions of women around the world wake up feeling more confident every single day.
And I truly believe we’re just getting started. 🤍
